Ten Years of Loss and Grief
On July 17, 2024, the world marked the tenth anniversary of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 tragedy. The flight, carrying 298 passengers and crew, was shot down over eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian separatists. Among the victims were 193 Dutch citizens, including an American-Dutch citizen.
Victims from All Walks of Life
The victims of Flight MH17 came from various backgrounds and walks of life. John Alder, 63, and Liam Sweeney, 28, were supporters of Newcastle United Football Club who were traveling to watch a match. Silene Frederiksz's son, Bryce, was one of the 298 victims on board.
The MH17 Investigation
The investigation into the MH17 tragedy has been ongoing for a decade. In 2022, a Dutch court found three Russian separatists guilty of murder for their role in shooting down the plane. The court ruled that the separatists were acting as part of a Russian military operation in eastern Ukraine.
A Decade of Remembrance
Ten years after the tragedy, the memory of the victims of Flight MH17 lives on. Memorials and tributes have been erected in various locations, including the Netherlands, Ukraine, and Malaysia. The families of the victims continue to seek justice and accountability for the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
